Everybody needs a little space. Artists need it a little more. Artspace is based on this simple belief.
It all began with my husband Bobby who had a dream of becoming an artist – a dream that did not happen. The next best thing that he could think of was to create a space for artists and creative people in various fields to find peace, comfort and an atmosphere conducive to the free flow of their creative spirits. Everyhting came together when we visited Henley, U.K. during Bridget Fraser’s Artspace Summer Festival. We immediately decided we would like to do something similar in our space at Baruipur, Kolkata.
Baruipur is located 25 kms from the centre of Kolkata and offers a setting and an environment that is peaceful, green and totally natural. Spread over more than one acre of land, its facilities include studio space both indoors and outdoor; a 1000 sq.ft. gallery; a sculpture garden, a mini amphitheatre We also have fully equipped ceramic and enamel studio where professionals and amateurs can try their hands at a little dabbling.
Many creative people have utilized our space, the most established being Mr. Gunter Grass. Sculptors, painters, musicians from U.K, U.S, France, Thailand as well as from India have spent time here. Artspace India has also conducted various seminars and workshops
Artspace hopes to build on its immediate facilities a whole programme of alternative viewing but without support the best intentions can only go so far. Just as people need art, art needs people. For all those who would like to be a part of Artspace’s efforts in any way, our doors are always open. Together, we can make a world of difference.
